crystal is...
a Nigerian and Southern American art educator and curriculum designer who works at the intersection between storytelling and creative community building, specifically within communities of Black women, girls, and gender-expansive youth.
she comes from a legacy of educators and oral historians, whose diasporic traditions shape her practice.
she curates learning experiences, curricula, and archival projects that draw on the frameworks of Black feminisms and Black traditions of oral history as a means of memory making.
she is deeply inspired by Toni Morrison’s concept of “rememory”, and uses it to ground her approach to uplifting the stories that lie beyond our linear conceptions of time and material surroundings.
she is a youth worker at heart and has a passion for curating learning experiences that provide Black youth the tools to embark on their own personal archiving and storytelling projects.
my work
in the fall of 2021, i transitioned from my work with Black Feminist Future to take a much-needed period of rest. i now work with the public foundation, Thousand Currents to curate/develop their donor education programming.
i am so thankful to my comrade, sister-friend, and career coach Ashley Walden-Davis for her support as i have worked to relearn my relationship to labor. you can check out her work here.
curriculum development
in my personal time, i collaborate with orgs like The Big We Foundation to design programming, curricula, and workbooks for girls of color interested in creative arts, storytelling, and social change.
learning strategy/ program design
as a learning strategist with experience in curriculum design and program development, i work to create innovative educational programming, toolkits, and curricula that best serve the needs of the organizations i work with.
